abstract = "Since sixties when the Earth started to be observed by
meteorological satellites, algorithms, most of them using visible
and infrared techniques, started to be developed as an attempt do
get better observations in regions where no satisfactory
observations were made from Earth. In the last two decades,
microwave algorithms started to be an alternative way of getting
precipitation information from space. In this work two microwave
based algorithms, NESDIS, proposed by Ferraro et al. (1994) and
Ferraro and Marks (1995) and GSCAT (Goddard Scattering Algorithm),
proposed by Adler et al. (1991) and Negri et al. (1994), were used
in order to estimate rainfall over the region covered by the
meteorological Radar in Bauru S{\~a}o Paulo. Both algorithms use
data provided by SSM/I. Results suggest that these algorithms
overestimate the detected radar rainfall. The qualitative
estimates are quite reasonable, but much effort has to be done to
get better quantitative estimates.",
