abstract = "Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analyses are applied to daily
high frequency meridional wind component at 200 hPa obtained from
a long-range simulation using the CPTEC/COLA Atmospheric Global
Circulation Model. The analyses are performed for the austral
winter, from 1990 to 1994, in two regions. In the hemispheric
region the model reproduces a wavetrain pattern similar to
observations. Considering the regional analyses, the dominant
patterns are associated with the displacement of synoptic systems
over South America. The results show the skill of the climate
model in reproducing the observed transient patterns in a
long-range simulation.",
