             abstract = "This work shows a comparison between observed rainfall over Brazil 
                         and that simulated by the regional Eta model for two periods, 
                         November-December-January 1998/99 and June-July-August 1999. The 
                         comparison is done in terms of the number of days with light, 
                         moderate or heavy daily rainfall. Simulations show patterns of the 
                         spatial distribution of number of the number of days with light, 
                         moderate and heavy rainfall which resembles observations over 
                         several areas of the brazilian territory. However, the model 
                         failed to simulate the heavy rainfall over the central plateau 
                         during NDJ/1998-99 period. The Eta model also showed a tendency to 
                         overestimate the number of days with rainfall along the eastern 
                         coast of Nordeste during NDJ.",
