Radia{\c{c}}{\~a}o de Onda Longa Emergente (ROLE) do Climate

caracter{\'{\i}}sticas da circula{\c{c}}{\~a}o
Baseado neste
crit{\'e}rio, o in{\'{\i}}cio da esta{\c{c}}{\~a}o chuvosa
O outro
crit{\'e}rio utilizado foi o {\'{\I}}ndice-v, baseado no
cisalhamento vertical do vento meridional em 400W e 100S
({\'{\I}}ndice-v = v200(40oW,10oS) - v850(40oW, 10oS)). Assim, a
per{\'{\i}}odo do in{\'{\i}}cio da esta{\c{c}}{\~a}o chuvosa
Oceano Pac{\'{\i}}fico.
Converg{\^e}ncia do Atl{\^a}ntico Sul (ZCAS).
noroeste, por{\'e}m, neste per{\'{\i}}odo, a
convec{\c{c}}{\~a}o tropical esteve conectada {\`a}
nebulosidade da ZCIT do Atl{\^a}ntico. A evolu{\c{c}}{\~a}o e a
per{\'{\i}}odos an{\^o}malos secos e chuvosos. Algumas
regi{\~a}o Centro-Oeste. Durante o per{\'{\i}}odo seco os
Centro-Oeste. ABSTRACT: In this paper the mean atmospheric
circulation over South America for the 2001/02 rainy season over
mid-west Brazil is investigated using date of the reanalysis from
National Centers for Environmental Prediction/National Center for
Atmospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR), South Americas precipitation
analysis from Climate Prediction Center (CPC) and Outgoing
Longwave Radiation (OLR) from Climate Diagnostics Center (CDC).
Two different criteria were utilized to identify both the onset
and the demise date of the rainy season. The first one defines the
onset (demise) as the first occurrence of 850-hPa westerly
(easterly) winds along 60ºW in the band 10ºS 20ºS, together with
rainfall rates greater (less) than 4 mm d-1 for at least 75% of
the subsequent 8 pentads. Based on this criterion the rainy season
onset occurred in the pentad centered on November 04 and the
demise occurred in the pentads centered on April 3, with the
extension of 30 pentads. The second criterion used the Index-v
based on a meridional wind shear over 400W-100S (Index-v =
v200(40ºW,10ºS) - v850(40ºW,10ºS)). Thus, the onset (demise)
occurs when the Index-v is greater or equal to a threshold (0 ms-1
and 4 ms-1) for at least 75% of the subsequent 8 pentads. The OLR
pentad maps for the onset period show that the tropical convection
started over the northwest portion of South America with a
connection to the Pacific Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
Then, it propagated along the lee side of the Andes and over
Paraguay and South Brazil, until the formation of a NW-SE
cloudiness band, characterizing the South Atlantic Convergence
Zone (SACZ). During the end of the rainy season, the tropical
convection showed a connection with the Atlantic ITCZ. The
evolution and propagation of the convection occurred with the
advance to east of the change from easterly to westerly winds at
850 hPa. This change was enough to increase the specific humidity
in the analyzed region. During the rainy season, mid-west Brazil
experienced anomalously wet and dry periods. Also analysis of the
atmospheric conditions was done for the January 09 to 15 (wet
period), and from January 18 to 27 (dry period) period. The wet
period was associated with low-level northwesterly and westerly
flow east of the Andes that converges on mid-west Brazil. The dry
period was associated with enhanced low level northwesterly over
Paraguay and northern Argentina, and low level easterly over
mid-west Brazil.",
