abstract = "In this work the circulation patterns associated with the upper
level cyclonic vortices (VCANs) ver Northeast Brazil and Tropical
South Atlantic have been studied. It has been confirmed that VANs
originate from the amplification of the ridge associated with the
Bolivian high (BH). Such amplification can be caused by the
equatorial incursion of midlatitude frontal systems, or by troughs
in the North Pacific or in the North Atlantic aligned with BH in
NW-SE or NE-SW directions. Also the vortex originates associated
with the occurrence of an upper level anticyclonic circulation
over southwestern Atlantic and southeastern Brazil, which is
associated with stationary cold fronts (South Atlantic Convergence
Zone - SACZ). The VCANs can present regular or irregular
displacements. Midlatitude trough associated with frontal systems
and an interhemispheric bifurcation at northwest of the South
America can cause irregular displacement. For VCANs with regular
displacement it was common to observe the presence of an upper
level anticyclone over South Atlantic which is related to the
                         SACZ.",
