             abstract = "The global observational data assimilated by the Centro de 
                         Previs{\~a}o do Tempo e Estudos Clim{\'a}ticos{"} (CPTEC) are 
                         received from the Global Telecommunications System (GTS) through 
                         {"}Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia{"} (INMET). Some data are 
                         rejected by the Pre-processing system due to syntax and coding 
                         errors. Errors frequently detected in TEMP, SYNOP and SHIP reports 
                         are presented to warn the Operational Services about the quality 
                         of their data. The reports accepted by the pre-processing system 
                         are transformed into BUFR format, whose code, regulated by the::- 
                         Meteorological Organization (WMO), is described. Graphics and 
                         statistics are used to show the spatial distribution of 
                         {"}accepted data{"}, before inputting to the objective analysis.",
