aqueous extract of airborne matter collected in an urban region
(S{\~a}o Paulo -Brazil) and in one natural (N{\'u}cleo Cunha /
Indai{\'a}, State park of Serra do Mar -SP/Brazil). The inalable
fraction of airbome matter was sampled (aerodynamic diameter < 2.5
mm) during one winter period (July 1999) and one summer period
(January and February 2000) at both sites. Major cations and
anions were determined in the aqueous extract by Ion
Chromatography and the following chemical elements AI, Mn, Fe, Pb,
Ti, V, Zn, Ni, Cu, Co, Cd, Ba, Rb e Sr by ICP-MS. The results
showed that the total concentration of airbome particulates in the
natural area was around half the value found in the urban area,
both during winter and summer. Statistical analysis doneon the
aqueous extract chemistry showed that the main sources of
chemicals in the urban region are the industries and the vehicular
emissions while in the natural area the main sources are
gas-particle conversion and soil dust. RESUMO Neste trabalho
                         {\'e} caracterizada composi{\c{c}}{\~a}o qu{\'{\i}}mica do
Mar/SP-Brasil).
                         s{\'{\i}}tios. No material coletado, ap{\'o}s
                         {\^a}nions maiores (cromatografia l{\'{\i}}quida) e os
seguintes elementos qu{\'{\i}}micos (ICP-MS): Al, Mn, Fe, Pb,
Ti, V, Zn, Ni, Cu, Co, Cd, Ba, Rb e Sr. Os resultados mostraram
natural a principal fonte desse material particulado {\'e} a
                         convers{\~a}o gas- part{\'{\i}}cula e o solo.",
