The Juá-Conceição-Camará Mountain is located in the county of Caucaia, Ceará, Brazil, and has an approximate area of 102 square kilometers. It is considered a residual massy area that presents the best climatic conditions in semi-arid context. This work aims to characterize the dynamics of occupation of the mountains and evaluate their environmental degradation, through the use of remote sensing integrated with Georeferenced Information System Processing SPRING. (INPE). Thematic maps were prepared to show slope, land use and occupation and vegetal covering, using the logical structure of language analysis for GIS Algebraic Space LEGAL (INPE, 2007), in order to generate a map of environmental vulnerability, considering ecodynamics landscapes proposed by Tricart (1977). Thus, a brief diagnostic based upon physical and natural environment of the study area, as well as through satellite images, indicated the main impacts of the occupation through the analysis of socio-environmental, relating them with the agents that influenced the process of occupation, in addition to identify conflicts between land use and environmental law. Based on the outcomes of maps interpretation, is was possible to identify land conservation areas that have higher altitudes, while in the lower altitudes sectors there was a more intensive occupation process, being necessary the adoption of an environmental education program to educate the population concerning the consequences of an inappropriate land use. In this context the region has great potential for ecotourism, with the indispensable knowledgement that the area needs a future planning based on vulnerability to ensure the sustainability of the region.
