varia{\c{c}}{\~a}o espacial e temporal, o que torna a
regi{\~a}o mais suscept{\'{\i}}vel {\`a} atua{\c{c}}{\~a}o
climatologia destes epis{\'o}dios na regi{\~a}o. Neste sentido,
percentil. Assim, a distribui{\c{c}}{\~a}o anual, mensal e
anos. ABSTRACT: The Northeast Brazil (NEB) is the South America
area with greatest susceptibility to extreme events, however there
are few studies on the climatology of these episodes in the
region. In this sense, the aim of this study is performing the
climatology of heavy rainfall events (HREs) on the NEB. The
precipitation daily used in this study consists of rain gauge that
is interpolated to a 0.5o x0.5o regular grid in the CPTEC/INPE and
coverage the 1990 to 2008 period. Due to the different
precipitation regimes, the NEB was divided into three areas. In
order to identify the HREs, the quantiles technique with values
above the 95th percentile has been applied. Thus, annual, monthly
and seasonal distributions of HREs were performed. The results
showed that the monthly distribution of HREs was consistent with
the monthly climatology of rainfall, and that each area had
different seasonal variation for the events analyzed. The HREs
identified were associated with interannual variation phenomena
(El Niņo and La Niņa) and tended to increase over the years.",
