abstract = "Although the existence of the Brazilian Forest Legislation, the
Permanent Preservation Areas (PPA) defined by the legislation are
not respected as in the state verge of Minas Gerais and S{\~a}o
Paulo. It is possible to observe in this region some vegetated
areas that can be monitored with satellite images, as the Atlantic
Forest Continuum in the boundary this States. However, it is
unknown the level of attendance of those rules. The objective of
this study is to analyze the forest dynamic in the Permanent
Preservation Areas determined by the Brazilian Forest Legislation,
verify the level of attendance of those rules and relate it to the
municipalitys social economic data in 1993. A land use map was
created based on the TM/Landsat image of September 19 of 1993 to
quantify some classes. The PPAs were defined based on the
Brazilian Forest Legislation using the SRTM data and the drainage
digitalized from IBGE maps . The results showed that the total
amount of PPA areas is 245,23 kmē, however, only 157,43 km2 is the
covered of Atlantic Forest.",
