%X This paper illustrates the use of new functionalities available in LEGAL, the map algebra language module of the GIS Spring, resulting from a conceptual revision in which concepts such as local, zone and neighborhood were unified into the region concept, with implications in all classes of operations. Besides incorporating neighborhood operations functionalities, the language can now explore differences in resolution among data in more explicit and formal ways, thus allowing operations such as generalization and aggregation, typical in multi-scale and multi-resolution data analysis, to be naturally incorporated to map algebra jargon. We also illustrate the discussion with some applications aimed to noise removal from classified image and target detection taking deforestation patterns as target from images.
