             abstract = "The soybean is one of the most important crop cultivated in the 
                         world. In the 60īs it became the great importance for the 
                         Brazilian economy, and the production increased from 3.6% in the 
                         70īs to 18.7% in the 80īs. The Mato Grosso īs cerrado became the 
                         principal region of production of this crop in Brazil due to the 
                         governamental financial support and research projects, and also 
                         due to the characteristics of the soil and relif of the region. 
                         The objective of this work was to analyze the advance and the 
                         increase of cultivate area of soybean in the biomes of cerrado and 
                         forest in three cities in the Mato Grosso State, using remote 
                         sensing and GIS techniques for mapping the land use and land cover 
                         from 1986 to 2001. The material used was Landsat images aquired in 
                         the 1986/87 and 2000/01 years, and the image processing software 
                         called SPRING. The techniques used in the image processing 
                         metodology were mixture model, segmentation and non supervised 
                         classification. The results obtained shows that the soybean is an 
                         important pression factor of land use changes in the cerradoīs 
                         region, and is not so important in the forest areas.",
