%X The Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve-RDSM (total area of 1,124,000 ha) is characterized for a myriad of small lakes, either isolated or connected among themselves. The degree of lake connection to main rivers (Solimões and Japurá) along time is a key aspect for the understanding of biogeochemical processes taking place in the area. This paper reports the use of Image Restoration techniques to improve spatial resolution of TM-Landsat 5 images and Normalized Difference Water Index-NDWI to quantify the inundation area of RDSM lakes. The morphology of the RDSM lakes (round or long) seems to influence differently in the extension of the area of flooded area for flooding pulse of 11 of m that characterizes the region. The linear regression was significantly positive (r2= 0,95; p<0,01) to a significance level (α) of 5%. Round lakes present a bigger flooding relative area tham those from long lakes, due to their geomorphological characteristics.
