documentaci{\'o}n de las caracter{\'{\i}}sticas
f{\'{\i}}sicas de los Sistemas Convectivos de Mesoescala (SCM) a
trav{\'e}s de todo su ciclo de vida, usando informaci{\'o}n de
los canales t{\'e}rmicos (10.8 {\μm)} de los sat{\'e}lites
geoestacionarios. Las principales caracter{\'{\i}}sticas de este
sistema son las siguientes: Un m{\'e}todo de detecci{\'o}n de
nubes convectivas ({"}clusters{"}) basado en un umbral de
temperatura (235 {K);} el calculo de los par{\'a}metros
morfol{\'o}gicos y radiativos de cada SCM detectado en el paso
{anterior;} el algoritmo de seguimiento en basada en la
superposici{\'o}n de {\'a}reas entre im{\'a}genes {sucesivas;}
la construcci{\'o}n del ciclo de vida de cada SCM (?familias?) y
la generaci{\'o}n de im{\'a}genes virtuales. Esta
metodolog{\'{\i}}a ha sido aplicada a un conjunto de datos
durante el periodo SALLJET sobre la cuenca del Plata. Los
principales resultados son: (1) El tiempo de vida medio de los SCM
es de 4 horas mientras que el tamaņo m{\'a}ximo medio de los
mismos es de 14000 km2. (2) La iniciaci{\'o}n de los SCM coincide
con el horario de la m{\'a}xima insolaci{\'o}n, lo que viene
acompaņado por un proceso de fuerte {expansi{\'o}n;} (3) la mayor
actividad convectiva es nocturna. ABSTRACT:The ForTrACC technique
(Forecasting and Tracking of Active Cloud Clusters) is an
automated method to document physical characteristic of mesoscale
convective systems (hereafter MCSs) during its whole life cycle
using the thermal channel (10.8 {\μm)} of geostationary
satellites. The main features of this software are the following:
the cloud clusters detection method based on a threshold
temperature (235 {K);} the evaluation of morphological and
radiative parameters of each MCSs detected in the previous {step;}
the tracking technique based on overlapping areas between
successive {images;} the life cycle building {(?families?);} and
the virtual image generation. This methodology has been applied to
a data set covering SALLJET project period over Del Plata basin.
The main results are: (1) the mean lifetime is around 4 hours,
while the maximum mean size is 14000 km2. (2) The spontaneous
generation of the MCS is coincident with maximum insolation time,
this process is accompanied by a strong area {expansion;} (3) the
maximum convective activity occurs during the night.",
