abstract = "The Divisao de Satelites e Sisitemas (DSA) of the Centro de
Previsao de tempo e Estudos Climaticos (CPTEC) operationally
produces wind fields in the troposphere at several levels for a
region extend over all South america, using Infra-Red (IR) and
Water Vapor (WV) channels of the geostationary satellite
GOES-12.It is found that the winds estimatedusing the IR channel
are underestimated for high levels and overestimated for
intermediate and low levels.The calculated BIAS and RMS make
evident a quality similar to that of the vectors assessed by NOAA,
EUMETSAT and JMA.",
