Am{\'e}rica do Sul. Desenvolveram-se estudos de s{\'e}ries
temporais de dados de NO2 para as esta{\c{c}}{\~o}es de Natal e
Cachoeira Paulista, no Brasil, La Paz, na Bol{\'{\i}}via, e
Punta Arenas, no Chile.
superf{\'{\i}}cie franc{\^e}s SAOZ, instalado em Bauru. A
prioridade. Da{\'{\i}} ocorre que os dados, em geral, t{\^e}m
desvios padr{\~a}o altos.
varia{\c{c}}{\~a}o temporal e espacial do NO2. Em todas as
esta{\c{c}}{\~o}es, obtiveram-se varia{\c{c}}{\~o}es sazonais
de NO2 estratosf{\'e}rico, com m{\'a}ximos no ver{\~a}o e
m{\'{\i}}nimos no inverno. Simultaneamente,
m{\'{\i}}nimos no ver{\~a}o. Varia{\c{c}}{\~o}es di{\'a}rias
melhor conhecimento do NO2 atmosf{\'e}rico. ABSTRACT: The Brewer
Spectrophotometer was developed to measure ozone and ultraviolet
radiation in the UV-B range. The measurement of other atmospheric
gases, such as NO2 and SO2, is possible with some adaptations and
procedures. It is possible to measure the nitrogen dioxide total
column and the tropospheric and stratospheric NO2 columns. This
works objective is to establish optimized methodologies for
collecting, calibrate, and a reduce data for NO2 measurements
using the Brewer Spectrophotometers of the INPE network in South
America. Temporal series of NO2 data were obtained for the cities
of Natal and Cachoeira Paulista in Brazil, La Paz in Bolivia and
Punta Arenas in Chile. In addition, special campaigns were made in
S{\~a}o Paulo city, near the Petrobr{\'a}s Refinery in
Cubat{\~a}o, and at the Brazilian Antarctic Station.
Intercomparisons were made between Brewers 081 and 124, in
Cachoeira Paulista, and between Brewer 124 in Cachoeira Paulista
and the French ground-based spectrometer SAOZ installed in the
city of Bauru. The amount of the atmospheric NO2 vertical column
is very low, 300 times less than atmospheric ozone. Besides, the
instrument doesnt measure the NO2 as its first priority. Because
of this, NO2 data usually have high standard deviations. Even so,
with the optimization of the collecting and processing of the
data, very interesting results are obtained for the NO2 temporal
and spacial variations. Seasonal variations in the NO2
stratospheric column were observed at all stations mentioned, with
maximum in summer and minimum in winter. Seasonal variations of
NO2 tropospheric columns were also observed at the stations, with
maxima in winter and minima in summer. Daily variations of the NO2
stratospheric columns were measured using the twilight technique.
Evening values were 1,5 times larger than morning values. For the
tropospheric data, the higher values were measured in S{\~a}o
Paulo, Cubat{\~a}o and La Paz, respectively, with Natal following
this last city. Since presently, there are only few NO2
measurements being made in the Southern Hemisphere, it appears
that the Brewer can made significant contributions for the better
understanding of atmospheric NO2.",
