an{\'a}lise quantitativa do papel do PRE como um mecanismo

cascata. Estas perturba{\c{c}}{\~o}es podem ser originadas por
ondas de gravidade, e servindo como mecanismo gerador /precursor
do spread F equatorial. As ondas de r{\'a}dio s{\~a}o afetadas

is formed by the Rayleigh- Taylor instability in the bottomside F
layer above the geomagnetic equator and it grows non-linearly to
the topside. The evening plasma prereversal enhancement is
responsible to create conditions for the initiation of the
Rayleigh- Taylor instability by increasing both the gravitational
and electrodynamics terms of the growth rate. It has been
established that the height of the post-sunset F layer is the most
important parameter controlling the generation of equatorial
spread F, but is not the only one. A seed perturbation is a
necessary requirement for the initiation of the Gravitational
Rayleigh Taylor (GRT) instability. Atmospheric gravity waves
generated at tropospheric altitudes and propagating upward to
ionospheric altitudes are a potential source for the initial
seeding, which is necessary for the growth of GRT and ESF
formation. In the present study, statistics of various aspects of
spread F occurrence are presented from HF/VHF radars and
incoherent scatter radars located at three equatorial stations:
Christmas Island, S{\~a}o Lu{\'{\i}}s and Jicamarca. The spread
F parameters obtained from radars presented here are the onset
altitude and onset time of the bottom-type and plume, and the peak
altitude of the plume which are known to be associated with the
spread F occurrence characteristics. The study reveals novel
features namely, seasonal and solar fiux dependence of spread F
occurrence over Christmas Island/S{\~a}o Lu{\'{\i}}s, and
longitudinal dependence of spread F occurrence characteristics
from these three stations based on the chosen parameters. It was
generated a radar parameter empirical model developed combining
statistical analysis of three equatorial and longitudinally
separated stations, which is important to study the irregularity
generation mechanisms, for space weather forecasting and
nowcasting programs, and to improve scintillation warning models.
It was made a quantitatively analysis of the role of the PRE as a
preconditioning mechanism through the Rayleigh- Taylor instability
process leading to the development of ionospheric plasma bubbles
over SA. To reach this objective the depletions detection was made
with TEC values using bubble detection algorithm. The bubble
detection algorithm in the ionosphere, and the digisonde
parameters give information about the ionosphere background
conditions, and both are related to the generation and evolution
of plasma bubbles, Due to the fact that during solar minimum
conditions, the F-layer is relatively at low-height, the upward
propagating wave-like perturbations that can reach the lower part
of the F layer can contribute to the RT instability and its
cascading processes. These perturbations could be originated by
Gravity Wave, serving as seeding/precursor mechanisms for
equatorial spread-F. The radio waves are afected by refiection,
refraction, difraction, absortion, unpolarization and spreading
phenomenon. The radio wave is affected by changings in the
temperature vertical profile and tropospheric water vapor and
ionization density in the ionosphere. As factors infiuencing the
propagation of radio signals in the ionosphere there are the
sporadic E layer, equatorial spread F, ionospheric layer elongated
structures (plasma bubbles), solar fiares, geomagnetic storms, and
other solar events. The plasma turbulence associated to equatorial
plasma bubbles are generally the higher found at the globe and
their occurrence is associated to season, longitude, latitude,
solar cycle, magnetic activity, showing a high variable degree
from day to day. The irregularity model to scintillation
prediction used as base of one chapter of this thesis is described
in the papers COSTA e BASU (2002), COSTA et al. (2011), using the
multiple phase screen tecnique (efficient numerical technique to
simulate radio waves propagation trough the random medium,
generating fiuctuations in the signal phase and amplitude to
cumulate inside itself) to model S\$_{4}\$, the scintillation
index at the ground. We found out that the S{\~a}o Lu{\'{\i}}s
radar instrumentation parameters and the ionospheric
irregularities spectral parameters are crucial and at the same
time criticai for a better prediction of scintillation index at
the ground.",
