abstract = "Rainfall at eight stations in the Amazon basin, having data since
1920s, is analyzed to verify if there are long-term trends.
Annual, rainy season and dry season rainfalls are individually
analyzed. In general, the stations in the southeastern sector of
the Amazon basin showed downward trend while the stations in
northwestern Amazon basin showed upward trend in the past 80
years. Alarmingly large negative trends of more than 100 mm/season
in 80 years are observed at Itacoatiara and Manicore in the
southeastern sector in the rainy season rainfall. An important
question arises: Can we attribute these negative trends to
deforestation in the Amazon rim region?
analisadas separadamente. Em geral, as esta{\c{c}}{\~o}es no
setor sudeste mostraram tend{\^e}ncias negativas e
surge: Podemos atribuir estas tend{\^e}ncias a
destrui{\c{c}}{\~a}o da vegeta{\c{c}}{\~a}o no arco de
                         desmatamento?.",
