In this study is made an investigation about spatial structure of South Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ) on continental and oceanic sector. Intraseasonal variability of this meteorological system in three summer seasons (extended summer - October to March) is conducted between Indonesia and South America tropical sector. Thirty-one SACZ events are analyzed according to CPTEC/INPE Climanálise reports. Nine events were registered in 2005/2006 summer, ten in 2006/2007 summer and twelve in 2007/2008 summer. These events are characterized as oceanic SACZ or continental SACZ according to maximum convective activity position inferred through the more negative values of Outgoing Long Wave Radiation Anomalies (AOLR) on atmospheric top. Ocean category is associated with negative AOLR concentrated in southern Atlantic and close to southeastern Brazil coast. On the other hand, continental aspect presents intense signs of anomalous convection concentrated in part of central Brazil. Vertical structure of oceanic category shows the presence of a deep anomalous trough which presents a baroclinic dynamic behavior. In continental category that trough appears restricted to low levels. Additionally, Lanczos filter is applied to OLR, considering 02-10, 10-30 and 30-70 days temporal bands. It is verified that spatial distribution of anomalous convection observed in oceanic category, presents a phase relationship between high frequency and low frequency modes, which can not be observed in continental category. Different stages of Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) modulate convective behavior of both SACZ categories.
