                         ao equador \ROLant \. O campo de ant ROL 
                         m{\'e}dio na BAC para o per{\'{\i}}odo de IEC de 2007 fornece 
                         uma boa indica{\c{c}}{\~a}o de quando a esta{\c{c}}{\~a}o 
                         chuvosa {\'e} estabelecida na regi{\~a}o. Entretanto, a data de 
                         FEC de 2008 estimada da s{\'e}rie de ROLant {\'e} uma ou duas 
                         p{\^e}ntadas antes da data quando a precipita{\c{c}}{\~a}o 
                         {\'e} ausente na regi{\~a}o da BAC. Com os dados do TRMM/PR foi 
                         poss{\'{\i}}vel analisar o tipo de precipita{\c{c}}{\~a}o 
                         associado ao IEC e FEC sobre a regi{\~a}o e avaliar o 
                         per{\'{\i}}odo de transi{\c{c}}{\~a}o. Notou-se, assim, que a 
                         precipita{\c{c}}{\~a}o estratiforme tem grande influ{\^e}ncia 
                         no FEC. ABSTRACT: Onset and demise of the rainy season (ONR and 
                         DER) of 2007 and 2008, respectively, are investigated over the 
                         Central Amazon Basin (CAM) using outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) 
                         data and TRMM/PR (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission 
                         Precipitation Radar). The determination of these dates was based 
                         on the antisymmetric in relation to the equator outgoing longwave 
                         radiation \AOLR\. The spatial average of AOLR 
                         over the CAM for the ONR of 2007 gives a reasonable indication of 
                         when the rainy season is established in the region. However, the 
                         DER date estimated from the AOLR time series for 2008 is one to 
                         two pentads before the date when rainfall is absent in the CAM 
                         region. With the TRMM/PR data, it was possible to analyze the type 
                         of precipitation associated to ONR and DER over the area and to 
                         assess the transition period. Thus, it was noted that the 
                         stratiform precipitation has influence on the FEC.",
