parte do Nordeste do Brasil (NEB).
atua{\c{c}}{\~a}o desse sistema atmosf{\'e}rico auxiliou tanto
de forma positiva como de forma negativa. No primeiro caso, parte
casa e fam{\'{\i}}lias ficaram desabrigados. Devido aos impactos
                         que este fen{\^o}meno atmosf{\'e}rico imp{\^o}s a
                         popula{\c{c}}{\~a}o e que tamb{\'e}m foi previsto pelo
                         CPTEC/INPE atrav{\'e}s da elabora{\c{c}}{\~a}o de avisos
                         meteorol{\'o}gicos, surgiu como motiva{\c{c}}{\~a}o a
constru{\c{c}}{\~a}o do atual estudo de caso. O objetivo deste
trabalho {\'e} realizar uma an{\'a}lise sin{\'o}tica do evento
                         operacionais no CPTEC/INPE (ETA 15 km, GFS, BRAMS 5 km, G3DVAR e
                         Global T299L64).
                         infravermelho (real{\c{c}}ada) e do vapor d{\'a}gua, cartas
No centro
Sergipe. Os {\'{\i}}ndices de instabilidade apresentaram valores
                         precipita{\c{c}}{\~a}o intensa e trovoada. A nebulosidade de
tipo convectiva observou-se principalmente nas redondezas do
                         centro do v{\'o}rtice, devido {\`a} presen{\c{c}}a do
rela{\c{c}}{\~a}o {\`a} chuva intensa registrada no litoral
deste Estado./ The acting of an Upper Level Cyclonic Vortex
(ULCV), which occurred from November 2-6, 2013, was responsible
for severe weather in much of Northeast Brazil (NEB). At some
locations extreme precipitation was recorded, such as, for
example, in Aracaju, Sergipe, where more than 130 mm were
registered between November 3rd and 4th. The acting of this
atmospheric system assisted in both positive and negative ways. In
the first case, part of NEB was punished by dry weather, which was
considered the worst drought in 65 years due to the low quantity
and poor distribution of rain. The negative effect arose due to
intense precipitation in isolated locations, in addition to many
lightning flashes, strong wind and hail that caused impacts on the
affected society. Among these impacts, the following stood out:
floods, fallen trees, roof damage to houses and families who lost
their homes. Due to the impacts that this atmospheric phenomenon
imposed on the population, and also because it was predicted by
CPTEC/INPE through the preparation of meteorological warnings, the
motivation arose to form the current case study. The objective of
this work is to conduct a synoptic analysis of the extreme
precipitation event that occurred in NEB due to the acting of an
ULCV. This study also aims to evaluate the precipitation fields
predicted by the different operational numerical weather
prediction models at CPTEC/INPE (ETA 15 km, GFS, BRAMS 5 km,
G3DVAR and Global T299L64). For the synoptic analysis, satellite
images from the IR (enhanced) and water vapor channels, synoptic
                         charts at 250, 500, 700 and 850 hPa produced by CPTEC/INPE and
radiosoundings from Natal, RN, Recife, PE and Salvador, BA were
utilized. The results showed the acting of an intense Palmer type
ULCV in NEB for a period of approximately three days. The cyclonic
circulation associated with this low pressure system was verified
in the middle and upper troposphere using the 700, 500 and 250 hPa
levels. In the center of the ULCV a cold core of -15°C was
observed at 500 hPa, which contributed to a larger vertical
temperature gradient (lapse rate), favoring the production of hail
at some locations in the states of Alagoas, Rio Grande do Norte,
Bahia and Sergipe. The instability indices presented values that
indicated potential for strong convection, intense precipitation
and thunder. Convective-type cloudiness was observed principally
in the vicinity of the vortex center, due to the presence of the
cold core in the middle levels of the atmosphere. Finally, in
general the numerical weather prediction models underestimated the
accumulated rainfall measured by rain gauges in areas of Sergipe,
although the ETA 15 km model presented the best result with
relation to the intense rain registered on the coast of this
                         state.",
