title = "Study of the blanketing sporadic layer formation considering the
influence of the tidal winds",
year = "2015",

abstract = "This work presents a study about the formation of blanketing
sporadic E-layers, Esb, considering the tidal winds for two
Brazilian ionospheric regions: S{\~a}o Lu{\'{\i}}s, a quasi-
equatorial station, and Cachoeira Paulista, located at low
latitude. For this study we have used a theoretical model for the
E region, called MIRE, that calculate the densities for the main
molecular (NO+, O2+, N2+ ) and metallic ions (Fe+, Mg+) by solving
the continuity and momentum equations for each one of these
species. Therefore, it was possible to simulate the dynamics of
Esb layers under the action of tidal winds. Afterwards, the Es
layer blanketing frequency parameter (fbEs) was obtained from
ionograms in order to compare the evolution of the Esb layer with
the model results. The analysis shows that the Es layer parameters
computed using the tidal winds in the improved MIRE have a good
agreement with the observed fbEs parameter, mainly for Cachoeira
Paulista. Lastly, the comparison has interesting results that it
becomes possible to better understand the Es layer formation
mechanisms in the Brazilian sector.",
