ABSTRACT: For several decades equatorial plasma bubble structures
have been a subject of interest to the space science community,
however, the understanding of the mechanisms of formation and
variability of these structures is still scarce. This thesis
presents in its body a discussion in which a new mechanism is
evaluated, such mechanism is capable of acting as a seeder of
instabilities that can later be converted into structures of
plasma bubbles. The space-time variation of the vertical
pre-reversal drift is proposed as such mechanism, and its
sufficiency in seeding the existence of plasma bubble structures
is demonstrated. After a more intuitive introduction about
instabilities and the state of knowledge of the area on the
subject, there is a detailed description of a three-dimensional
computational mathematical model elaborated by the author of the
thesis to carry out the investigations pertaining to the proposed
proposition. The versatility of the model is able to offer results
that validate the hypotheses presented and exhibit features with
notorious similarity to the records of several ionospheric
sounding instruments whose information is introduced on fortuitous
occasions throughout the text.",
