abstract = "Given the importance of the computational approach in the study of
the diurnal variations of the horizontal component of the Earths
magnetic field, the present work shows a preliminary development
of an empirical model focusing South America. The empirical model
is based on the magnetically quiet day curve (QDC) of the
horizontal component. The QDCs are obtained by the Embrace
Magnetometer Network data (Embrace MagNet), and they are used as
input of the model. In fact, the QDC calculation is based on the
smoothed curve of the horizontal component mean, in which it is
used the five quietest days of the month for each magnetic
station. Therefore, we used eight years of data, from September
2010 to June 2018, at 14 magnetic stations to build this empirical
model. The results are discussed as an alternative to QDC
forecasting of the Embrace MagNet stations. Finally, the analysis
is presented by comparison between the QDC calculated by the
empirical model and the QDC calculated by the magnetic
measurements.",
