ABSTRACT: Space exploration is one of the main drivers of
innovation and new technologies, particularly the aerospace
industry. That is why, space missions become increasingly complex,
requiring high reliability and lower cost from their subsystems.
It is worth mentioning that placing a satellite in space is a
high-cost procedure, involving several steps, where the Attitude
Control System (SCA) needs to be robust, reliable and perform
well. The SCA must control high angular speeds with great
precision while stabilizing the attitude at levels compatible with
the mission's pointing requirements. The sub-systems of a
satellite associated with its sensors and actuators that aim at
determining and controlling the attitude of the satellite, often
cannot be repaired in space, so its proper functioning is
fundamental to the success of the mission. On the other hand,
complex space missions have highly nonlinear dynamics, where
linear control techniques are unable to design the SCA that meet
the mission requirements. In this work we study the performance
and robustness of the union of the SDRE control techniques
(State-dependent Riccati Equation) and the H-Infinity control
(H\∞). The first has the great advantage of approaching
systems with non-linear dynamics, through parameterization of the
State-Dependent Coefficient (SDC) and the second, is a technique
that allows increasing the robustness of the controller to
temporary and / or persistent disturbances and the uncertainties
of the model. Initially, an SDRE controller is designed for a 3D
platform of a satellite simulator that is being developed by the
Federal University of ABC (UFABC), which has reaction wheels and
gas jet actuators. It was shown that the SDRE controller has
superior performance compared to the LQR Controller (Linear
Quadratic Regulator). Then, the performance and robustness of the
projected controller is investigated through the union of the
techniques, SDRE and H infinity for the attitude control of the
satellite Amazon 1. This investigation is carried out for four SDC
parameterizations, which result in four pseudolinear dynamics,
that is, state-dependent dynamics. The performance criteria used
are observability, controllability and, mainly, the passband value
of the controller. The four parameterizations are analyzed,
confirming the influence of the SDC parameterization on the
performance and robustness of the SDRE + H\∞ controller.
Finally, it can be said that the main contribution of this work,
is the deep investigation of the influence of the four non-linear
dynamics on the performance and robustness of the SDRE +
H\∞ controller. In addition, the development of a
non-linear control algorithm with greater flexibility, which
allows the designer to balance the performance of the SDRE
technique with the robustness of the H\∞ technique.",
