abstract = "The 8th Heat Powered Cycles Conference (HPC) was hosted by the
University of Bayreuth, Germany, between 16 and 19 of September
2018. The Conference has gained important attention, both by
academia and industry, as this event has constantly attracted high
quality contributions with considerable impact in the development
of the related technologies. Since the subject related to energy
and how to better design thermodynamic cycles with higher
efficiency is a constant issue pursued by researchers worldwide,
the HPC Conference has been an important event to present and
discuss subjects like this, along with new working fluids and
applications, as well as new technologies for heat exchangers and
nanofluids. From a total of 120 submissions to the HPC Conference,
85 papers were selected to be part of its proceedings. From that,
15 papers were invited to be part of this Special Issue, which has
received 10 submissions and a total of 8 papers have been selected
for publication. The focus on the selection of the papers
presented in the Special Issue is to ensure high quality of
contributions that will certainly cause an important impact in
future developments and research. All papers presented in the Heat
Powered Cycles Conference in 2018 presented high quality
contributions, with important discussions among every participant,
which will help increasing the quality of future submissions in
the next event.",
