abstract = "This paper generally contributes to identify sites that
concentrate populations in different conditions of sustainability.
This is a first approach to operationalize the concept of
sustainable development focusing on the municipality of Ubatuba,
proposing as a tool an indicator called Sustainability Index of
Ubatuba (ISU) that considers intra-urban scale. Ubatuba is located
on the north coast of S{\~a}o Paulo state, with particular
characteristics of development. As initial step, the concept of
sustainable development was delineated for the scope of this work.
ISU was based on the assumption that the sustainability is
supported by three dimensions: economic, social and environmental,
and that it is also a function of specificities of the considered
region. Then, the methodology for constructing the ISU was applied
over the universe database of 2010 Demographic Census, aggregated
by census tracts. For better express the sustainability of the
municipality, the indicators were chosen based on the
socioeconomic profile verified for Ubatuba. From the indicators,
ISU value was calculated for every census tract, and the result
was spatialized for visual analysis in order to verify its
agreement to the reality, based on ground truth knowledge.",
