ResumoGoal driven Intelligent Agents and Fuzzy Reference Gain-Scheduling (FRGS) approach are described in this paper as interchangeable concepts that are able to deal with dynamic complex problems. It is advocated that the FRGS approach may be viewed as an autonomous goal-based agent, that is, a fuzzy logic based agent able to autonomously adapt itself to environmental changes introduced by external inputs. The concept of fuzzy systems and intelligent agent are employed in decision-making problems to lead to a certain degree of autonomy in decision support system. Although the FRGS method was originally proposed for control application, this approach was extended to decision-making tasks due to its ability of emulating human reasoning. This new agent approach uses the external input information also denominated reference (goal) as the driven mechanism to determine the behavior of the system in order to achieve the desired objectives (goal). Thus, the FRGS approach can be modeled in the framework of an adaptive and goal (also context or environment) driven agent.

ResumoA new kind of electronic speckle pattern interferometer was developed by the authors’ group using conical mirrors to measure the radial in-plane displacement component. True radial in-plane sensitivity is achieved by double illumination ESPI. A compact version of this interferometer was designed and built and successfully tested outside of an optical table. This paper presents a measurement evaluation of a second generation of this interferometer applied to residual stresses measurement. An ultra high-speed drilling unit was added to the device to drill a small blind hole in the region of interest. Due to the drilling process residual stresses are released in the neighborhood of the hole. The resulting radial displacement field is conveniently measured by the radial in-plane interferometer and fitted to a mathematical model. The principal residual stresses and principal stresses directions are then determined. One main difficulty dealing with evaluation of a residual stresses measurement device is to obtain a standard with a well known reference value. Two mechanical devices where built to provide a reference residual stresses value. The first one is a long specimen under a known uniform stresses field. The second one is a long pipe with known internal pressure. Both were designed, built and calibrated to provide a reference residual stresses value to calibrate the built residual stresses measurement device. Results of the evaluation of this device are also presented in detail in this paper. Both devices where used to check the measurement performance of the developed residual stresses measurement system and the results are presented and discussed in this paper.

ResumoA new kind of electronic speckle pattern interferometer (ESPI) was developed by the authors' group using conical mirrors to measure lhe radial in-plane displacement component. True radial in-plane sensitivity is achieved by double illumination. This device is used in this paper to measure residual stresses in combination with the indentation method. A semi-empirical mathematical model is developed to quan405, the residual stresses. Several tests were nade in a specimen with different leveis of residual stresses imposed by a mechanical loading. Empirical constants were computed from those tests and are used in combination with the developed model to predict the residual stresses leveis. 777e tests presented here are preliminary since they are restricted to only one material, one-axis stress state, one geomehy of the indentation tip and only one indentation force. In theses conditions the results are very encouraging since a typical measurement error of about 5% was found for the principal residual stress.
