Abstract: One of the major concerns these days, in relation to the space segment, is the mitigation of waste from missions that have reached the end of their useful lives. The density of space debris, located primarily in Low Earth Orbits (LEO), is growing exponentially, making the space agencies around the world develop policies to minimize these wastes. Within this perspective, the objective of this work is to develop a thorough study of the mitigation of space debris, coming from the nano-satellite constellation for environmental data collection of the CONASAT project, which is being developed by the National Institute for Space Research - Northeast Regional Center (CRN-INPE), in partnership with the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB), seeking a solution for the Brazilian System of Environmental Data Collection based in nanosatellites. The orientation of the project follows the rules of the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) and the mitigation of space debris follows the European Code of Conduct for Space Debris Mitigation, of June 2004, which foresees a maximum decay time either natural or forced, of 25 years after the lifetime of the mission. Within this perspective, considering a natural decay due to restrictions of engineering and safety and a lifetime of approximately two years, this study analyzes several satellite configurations, evaluating different geometric shapes, masses and altitudes that enable compliance with the European Code of Conduct for Space Debris Mitigation as well as the objectives proposed by the mission. The study was conducted with the aid of several computational tools, including MATLAB, for the analysis of the relationship between areas and masses of the satellites, the Satellite Tool Kit (STK) for the analysis of the orbital parameters involved and the Debris Assessment Software (DAS) the latter supplied by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and used for computation of the decay time. As a result, the work will provide data that will serve as reference for defining the constructive aspects of the constellation of the satellites, in regards to geometric and mass limits as well as their orbital aspects.

AbstractThe cosmic noise absorption (CNA) studies are presented in terms of the CNA images obtained from the imaging riometers operated at the Southern Space Observatory, in Sao Martinho da Serra (29.4 S, 53.1 W), Brazil, Concepcion (36.5 S, 73.0 W) and Punta Arenas (53.0 S, 70.5 W) in Chile, which form part of the South American Riometer Network (SARINET) and are located at the central and periphery regions of the South American Magnetic Anomaly (SAMA). Correlations are made between the maximum CNA observed at the SARINET stations and the two channels of energetic electrons (>30 keV and >300 keV) and the three channels of energetic protons (80-240 keV, 800-2500 keV and >6900 keV) from Medium Energy Proton and Electron Detector (MEPED), measured during the moderate geomagnetic storm that occurred on September 3, 2008. The results show high correlations between the CNA detected at SSO and the flux of protons with energy between 80 and 240 keV, and the flux of electrons with energies higher than 300 keV, while an additional ionization at CON was correlated with electrons of energies higher than 30 keV. The CNA detected at PAC was probably caused by the increase of the flux of protons with energy between 80 and 240 keV.

AbstractIn the twenty years of operation, the mission center software designed to process, archive and disseminate environmental data collected by satellites, developed by the Brazilian Institute for Space Research (INPE), have evolved under the influence of three generations of information architectures. From the standalone applications within individual organization, the mission center software evolved to integrated sets of client and server database components. With the migration of the Brazilian Data Collection System to INPE Northeast Regional Center (INPE-CRN), in 2008, and the growing interdependence among the organizations, that are the owners of the data collection platforms, the modernization of the environmental data archiving, processing and dissemination facilities were required by the Brazilian Environmental Data System (SINDA). Focusing on the view of information as corporate resources supported by IT tools and techniques, the third generation of information architecture actually guides the new version of SINDA, under the process of development supported by Brazilian Space Agency (AEB). Architecture of Information is a useful approach to separate technology and information architectures. The approach addresses knowledge management, the intelligent systems and a more holistic view of information, driven by the development of multi-dimensional architecture and open information patterns. This paper presents the architecture of information framework for SINDA, focusing on the construction of dimensional models, business process modeling (BPM), and customized IT tools/techniques, such as business intelligence, Rich Internet Applications (RIA), Semantic Web, mobile applications and Grid Computing and Constraints Programming. As a result, the new SINDA will improve the system governance based on the engine rules certified by end-users. Also the system scalability is improved by means of multi-telemetry media, space temporal system database, and environmental data integration supported by open patterns.
