AbstractThis paper describes a fuzzy similarity relation approach to Case-Based Reasoning. Residuated implication operators are used to create a fuzzy resemblance relation between cases, modeling the CBR basic principle the more similar the problem descriptions are, "the more similar the solution descriptions are" as a fuzzy gradual rule. We take the classification of Schistosomiasis prevalence estimation in a region of Brazil as case study, in order to investigate the effects in such a framework of weighting cases individually in classification tasks, considering a set of training strategies.

Similarity relations
AbstractThis paper addresses the use of residuated implication operators to create a fuzzy resemblance relation between cases so as to model the CBR basic principle the more similar two problem descriptions are, the more similar are their solutions. We describe how this fuzzy relation can be exploited to identify case clusters, based of a finite number of level cuts from that relation, that are in turn used to solve a new problem. The paper proposes some formal results that characterize the sets of clusters obtained from the various level-cuts of the resemblance relation.

AbstractMalicious programs pose a major threat to Internet-connected systems, increasing the importance of studying their behavior in order to fight against them. In this paper, we propose definitions to the different types of behavior that a program can present during its execution. Based on those definitions, we define suspicious behavior as the group of actions that change the state of a target system. We also propose a set of network and system-level dangerous activities that can be used to denote the malignity in suspicious behaviors, which were extracted from a large set of malware samples. In addition, we evaluate the malware samples according to their suspicious behavior. Moreover, we developed filters to translate from lower-level execution traces to the observed dangerous activities and evaluated them in the context of actual malware.

Lyapunov-Krasovskii
sochronal synchronization
AbstractIsochronal synchronization is a unique phenomenon in which physically distant oscillators wired together relax into zero-lag synchronous behavior over time. Such behavior is observed in natural processes and, recently, has been considered for promising applications in communication. Towards technological development of devices that explore isochronal sync, stability issues of the phenomenon need to be considered, both in the context of a pair or a network of coupled oscillators. This study concerns such stability issues by using the Lyapunov-Krasovskii theorem to propose a framework to study synchronization stability by using accessible parameters of the network coupling setup. As a result, relations between stability and network parameters are unveiled and the comprehension of roads leading to stability is enhanced.

AbstractRecently alternative approaches in cosmology seeks to explain the nature of dark matter as a direct result of the non-linear spacetime curvature due to different types of deformation potentials. In this context, a key test for this hypothesis is to examine the effects of deformation on the evolution of large scales structures. An important requirement for the fine analysis of this pure gravitational signature (without dark matter elements) is to characterize the position of a galaxy during its trajectory to the gravitational collapse of super clusters at low redshifts. In this context, each element in an gravitational N-body simulation behaves as a tracer of collapse governed by the process known as chaotic advection (or lagrangian turbulence). In order to develop a detailed study of this new approach we develop the COsmic LAgrangian TUrbulence Simulator (COLATUS) to perform gravitational N-body simulations based on Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) for graphics processing units (GPUs). In this paper we report the first robust results obtained from COLATUS.

Single Scattering Albedo
AbstractArtificial Neural Networks (ANNs) can be used to solve problems in Hydrologic Optics. A relevant problem is the estimation of the single scattering albedo and the phase function parameters, from the emitted radiation at the surface of natural waters. In this work we use a committee of ANNs of Multilayer Perceptron type to perform the estimation of the two mentioned parameters. The training of each network is formulated as a nonlinear optimization problem subject to constraints. In addition, each activation function has a distinct slope parameter, that is initially chosen by a random number generator function. This set of parameter (slopes) was included within the free variables network set in order to be adjusted to reach optimal values, together with the weights and biases, during the network training. This procedure (slope parameters inclusion) makes each one of the activation functions to have a different slope. Each network that composes the committee was trained independently, in order to become expert for the estimation of only one of the hydrologic parameters. For the networks training, we used the quasi-Newton method that is implemented in E04UCF subroutine, in the NAG library, developed by the Numerical Algorithms Group - NAG. The use of the quasi-Newton method to train the networks together with the distinct slope parameters resulted in a network with a fast learning and excellent generalization. Once the networks were trained, they were grouped so to share the input patterns, but remained independent from one another. For the validation/generalization test we used two distinct sets. For all considered noise levels, we obtained 100% of correct answers for the first set, and above 90% of correct answers for the second se.

AbstractThe automatic early detection, isolation, and localization of faults is of high interest in industrial systems, for improving reliability and safety. This process is characterized as fault diagnosis (FDI) and some problems related with robustness to external disturbances, sensitivity to incipient faults and processing time are still considered as limitations for many of the current FDI methods. This work is focused on the formulation of the fault diagnosis by an inverse problem methodology. The FDI problem is formulated as an optimization problem and takes results from the diagnosis area for acquiring prior information. The optimization problem is solved by the stochastic algorithm Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and its modified version fuzzy-ACO (ACO-d). The proposed approach is tested using simulated data of the Inverted-Pendulum system which is recognized as a benchmarck for control and diagnosis. With the purpose of analyzing the advantages of such approach, some experiments, with data corrupted with noise, are considered. The influence of ACO parameters are also taken in consideration. The results obtained show the suitability of the approach and also indicate that the parameters values allowing a greater exploration of the search space yields a better diagnosis. The ACO-d algorithm enables better diagnosis than ACO.

AbstractThis paper proposes a cloud infrastructure for Space Systems e-Engineering by exposing services tailored to the concept design phase of satellite manufacturing. The solution relies on two previous works named SatBudgets and SpaceESB for budgeting automation and service wrapping. It is expected that the framework will promote collaboration among project stakeholders and empower horizontal communications in the systems engineering team.
