AbstractA frequência de eventos de precipitação intensa (EPIs) sobre a La Plata Basin (LPB) a partir de dados observados e de simulações numéricas com cinco modelos regionais para os climas do passado, presente e futuro foi analisada. Estes eventos foram identificados por meio da Técnica dos Quantis, tanto para os dados observados de precipitação quanto para os resultados das simulações numéricas dos modelos regionais. Os modelos Eta e REMO foram os quais mais se aproximaram dos valores observados. As projeções dos modelos para o século XXI e comparações com o século XX no setor norte da bacia mostraram que as menores variações do clima futuro em relação ao passado foram melhores representadas no inverno e verão pelos modelos RCA e Eta, respectivamente. Análises de campos atmosféricos a fim de obter explicações para a situação mostrada no presente estudo são necessárias. ABSTRACT: The frequency of heavy rainfall episodes (HRE) on the La Plata Basin (LPB) from observed data and numerical simulations with five regional models for past, present and future climates is analyzed. These events are identified by the technical quartiles. Regarding the validation of models from analyzes of annual, monthly and seasonal distributions, the Eta and REMO are the models that come closest to the observed values. The projections of the models for the 21st century and comparisons with the 20th century, for seasonal distribution, of north sector of the basin the RCA and Eta models show that the smaller variations of the future climate compared to the past are better represented in the winter and summer seasons. Analyses of atmospheric fields to obtain explanations for the situation shown in this study are required.
