Abstract Starch, the main reserve substance in higher plants, is a renewable raw material, biodegradable, nontoxic and abundant polysaccharide that arouses great interest as a stabilizer. However, applications of native starches are limited due to its instability on storage. Therefore, it is necessary structural modifications to improve their properties and applications, for example, surfactant activity. In this context, the purpose of this work was to characterize the anionic starch Superion 3050 and and their hydrolysates as surfactants for use in polymeric nanoparticles formulations. The starch was hydrolyzed via enzymatic process employing a factorial design with 22 replicates at the central point and the hydrolyzed starches obtained were named AAAMM (anionic starch high molecular weight) and AABMM (anionic starch low molecular weight). The thermal behavior of starches was evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis. Testing surface tension assessed the surfactant ability of the hydrolyzed starches. TG curves show the activity of the enzyme in the depolymerization of starch Superion 3050 and testing of surface tension are in agreement with the results observed by the TG curves, confirming the higher efficiency of AABMM. |
