AbstractDesign system management aims at improving the performance of the company and at bringing reactivity to the evolutions of customers needs and of the constraints of the market. This management requires to be able to understand and evaluate the design process and the activities that make it up. Companies must not only control the design process but also manage the design system. The control of the design system requires to take into account three narrowly overlapping dimensions related to the product (object to be defined), the process (that creates this object) and finally the organization (the context in which the process unfolds). They all create and support at the same time the development of a new product. Thus, the evaluation of design has to consider all these dimensions and must propose a set of elements of measurement. These elements are identified within a model of the system to lead, in order to be able to provide relevant information that will ensure a coherent decision-making in correlation with the real state of the system. All the difficulty will be in the modelling of the system for its evaluation. To propose an effective control of the design, our propositions are based on the results obtained during the project IPPOP (Integration of Product, Process and Organization to increase Performance in design, http://ippop.laps.u-bordeaux1.fr/). The proposed model constitutes the core of a collaborative environment allowing the actors to lead the design and to be inter-connected with the existing applications (e.g. PLM tools...). In this context a methodology was worked out for applying this modelling and for the control of the design process. Finally a prototype of software support was developed: PEGASE. Its main functionalities make it possible to meet the following needs: - to correlate and integrate the organization of the company and the structuring of the project, - to structure the project and to plan the design process by integrating performance indicators of the process but also organization and product ones, - to ensure the follow-up of the project by considering this integration and these indicators. In this paper, we will present the work undertaken during the project IPPOP. We will be interested more particularly in the support which can help the actors to correlate the organization of the company and the definition of design process with the structuring of the design projects and the control of the real process. The first part of the paper describes the integrated model of project IPPOP and the methodology to implement this model. Based on this model, within the framework of case study inspired of an industrial study in SME, a detailed presentation of the prototype software application PEGASE will be proposed and discussed.
