AbstractThe development of market technologies and solutions for business enterprise is promising for cost reduction and benefit. For industrial corporate, PDM (product data management) system and digital manufacturing solution are supposed to reduce product life cycle development. This enterprise solution comes with facilities for collaborative concurrent engineering activities support. Unfortunately, solutions do not provide plan for legacy system evolution, what are the impacts on data, how far business process change, why to change IT solution? The purpose of Enterprise architecture is to align business activities with IT framework. The aim of the paper is describe the use of an enterprise architecture framework in an electrical concurrent engineering process. It provides experimentation result on applying enterprise architecture concept to electrical engineering activities. Astrium space transportation is one of the major in aerospace industry. The electrical department is in charged of design and development of embedded electrical system and ground electrical system. Harmonization effort between multinational locations targets enterprise methods and tools. The challenge is to plan effort to reach a common target from the actual background and legacy systems (As-is) to a future platform (to-be). The problem to be solved is to identify technical and business criteria to develop a high added value for engineering process and information system. Architecture intends to capture components, their organizations, and the relation to the environment. The components are described in term of cost, functionality, risk, and time considerations. IEEE 1471 presents a consistent set of definitions for architectural description. John Zachmans framework is the foundational thinking for many Enterprise Architecture frameworks. Based on interview, we build a list of viewpoint according to IEEE 1471 that undertakes all area of interests. The project involve multi stakeholder from business manager to IT engineer through engineering and manufacturing people. As an example, the discipline capabilities viewpoint carries process description in design, production and integration field. Model used to describe the list of concerns involves concepts description. Concept have equivalent in different viewpoint. Following the Zachman framework we develop a matrix for concept classification and taxonomy. The composition of element from one cell or between cells permits the high added value strategy description and problem identification. The architecture was implemented into System Architect Tools. The tool provides functions to query the architecture in order to assess IT plan with elements from the basic construct like function (F), business data (D), applications (A), goals (G), people organization (P) , strength (S) , weakness (W), opportunities (O). The work result is an implementation of different views about architecture as it is defined in the IEEE 1471. View source came from the Zachman and DoD AF system view. Column as question and row as perspective help to well define and to bring together all concerns about enterprise architecture. COTS solution can be specifically evaluate in the architecture repository through a to-be scenario. As a waterfall, the scenario map step by step software components and functionality onto disciplines business needs and onto business strategy.
