AbstractNanocrystalline diamond (NCD) particles were incorporated into diamond-like carbon (DLC) films in order to investigate NCDDLC electrochemical corrosion resistance. The films were grown over 304 stainless steel using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. NCD particles were incorporated into DLC during the deposition process. The investigation of NCDDLC electrochemical corrosion behavior was performed using potentiodynamic polarization against NaCl. NCDDLC films presented more negative corrosion potential and lower anodic and cathodic current densities. The electrochemical analysis indicated that NCDDLC films present superior impedance and polarization resistance compared to the pure DLC, which indicate that they are promising corrosion protective coatings in aggressive solutions.
