| Abstract | Remote sensing-related education activities in South America started in the beginning of 1970s when the first remote sensing satellite, LANDSAT, was launched. In 1972, São José dos Campos, Brazilbased National Institute of Space Research (INPE), decided to create a masters programme in remote sensing. In the beginning, this programme was designed only for INPE researchers, because at that time there were no post-graduate programmes in Brazil to qualify professionals in remote sensing. |
