AbstractLangmuir probes are intensively use in the plasma edge of tokamak machines for electron temperature, density and plasma potential measurements. This method is increasingly being because of recent results indicating that physical processes occuring in the plasma edge influence the plasma core properties. This work describes a Langmuir probe system that is in use in TBR-1, a small tokamak in operation at Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo. The methodology used in the determination of plasma parameters from a charecteristics curve is shown. We then describe the experimental arrangements that are basicaly composed of a Langmuir probe and a voltage generator making possible to drive the probe with adjustable ramp voltage of -100V to +100V, with period adjustable from 50 us to 50ms. The maximum permissible current is 250mA. Incorporating a current transformer, the system allows a probe current resolution of 20uA. The system can be used in two modes: iion saturation and sweep mode. All the electronics were designed at the Laboratory. Probe voltage and current time profiles are shown and plasma parameters determined.
