AbstractThe Large-Scale Biosphere- Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA) is now well advanced into its operational phase. A number of field activities were implemented over the past two years. In particular, the coordinated Wet-Season Atmospheric Mesoscale Campaign (WetAMC), carried out over south-western Amazonia (Rondônia) from January to March 1999, had a focus on energy, water vapour, CO2 and other trace gas and volatile organic carbon (VOC) fluxes. It involved a large number of researchers from institutions in South America, North America and Europe. That campaign was co-located and coordinated with the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM/LBA) campaign for ground validation of sensors of the TRMM satellite, complemented by detailed in-situ studies of tropical clouds and convection.
