| Abstract | O Início e Fim da Estação Chuvosa (IEC e FEC, respectivamente) são investigados na região Centro-Oeste do Brasil para o período de 1979-2006. A análise é feita utilizando dados de Radiação de Onda Longa anti-simétricos em relação ao equador (ROLant) e a técnica de Funções Ortogonais Empíricas (EOF). Os EOF01 para os dados de IEC e de FEC mostram correlações negativas na região. As mudanças de sinal da primeira componente principal (PC01) para o IEC de negativo para positivo indicam a transição da Estação Seca (ES) para a Estação Chuvosa (EC) e, para o FEC, de positivo para negativo, a transição da EC para a ES. Finalmente, índices baseados nos padrões das configurações espaciais desses modos são construídos. A potencialidade desses índices para propósito de monitoramento é analisada. Assim, trata-se de uma nova metodologia de detecção das datas de IEC e FEC para regiões do Sistema de Monção da América do Sul utilizando aspectos inter-hemisféricos. ABSTRACT: Onset and demise of the rainy season (ONR and DER, respectively) over west-central Brazil are investigated for the 1979-2006 period. Analyses use equatorially anti-symmetric outgoing longwave radiation (AOLR) and the empirical orthogonal function (EOF) technique. The first EOF modes for the ONR and DER data show negative loadings over the region. The sign changes of the first principal component (PC01) for the ONR data from negative to positive indicate the transition from the dry season (DS) to the rainy season (RS), and for the DER from positive to negative, the transition from the RS to DS. Finally, indices based on the loadings patterns of the first modes are constructed. The potential of these indices for monitoring tasks are analyzed. Thus, this is a new methodology to determine the onset and demise dates of the rainy season for the South American Monsoon System regions using inter-hemispheric aspects. |
