AbstractRESUMO: O FORTRACC (Forecasting and Tracking of the Evolution of Cloud Clusters) é um sistema que se caracteriza pela determinação de trajetórias e ciclo de vida dos sistemas convectivos de mesoescala, sendo utilizado operacionalmente na DSA/CPTEC a partir de imagens do satélite GOES-10. O sistema foi adaptado para seguir estruturas precipitantes através de imagens de radar meteorológico utilizando campos de VIL (Vertically Integrated Liquid - conteúdo de água líquida integrada verticalmente). A metodologia foi aplicada para um conjunto de dados do radar meteorológico de São Roque localizado no sudeste do Brasil. Com a obtenção das curvas de expansão para o FORTRACC-VIL, observou-se que os valores de expansão inicial para estruturas precipitantes variam entre 500 X 10-6 s-1 e 600 X 10-6 s-1, de acordo com o tempo de duração do ciclo de vida. Esses valores são maiores daqueles obtidos com os dados de satélite, entre 200 X 10-6 s-1 e 300 X 10-6 s-1, indicando que o sistema FORTRACC com dados de radar, consegue monitorar o crescimento explosivo inicial das estruturas precipitantes menores, observadas nos campos de VIL. ABSTRACT: FORTRACC (Forecasting and Tracking of the Evolution of Cloud Clusters) is system that is characterized by the determination of trajectories and life cycle of mesoscale convective systems, used operationally in DSA/CPTEC images from GOES-10 satellite. This system has been adapted to follow structures precipitating through images of VIL (Vertically Integrated Liquid). The methodology was applied to a set of data from weather radar of São Roque located in southeastern Brazil. With acquisition of curves of expansion for FORTRACC-VIL, it was observed that the values of initial expansion for precipitating structures vary between 500 X 10-6 s-1 and 600 X 10-6 s-1, according to the lifetime duration. These values are higher than obtained with the satellite data, between 200 X 10-6 s-1 and 300 X 10-6 s-1, indicating that system FORTRACC using radar data is able to track the explosive growth of initial precipitating structures observed in VIL images..
