ABSTRACT: The increasing worldwide concern with the quality of the environment requires a careful consideration from the governmental sectors to the population in general. One of the main human activities of great impact to the environment is the transport, mainly by vehicles that use mineral oil diesel as combustible. Although this activity is of chief importance in a countrys economy, it is also one of the chief responsible for emissions that contain many types of atmospheric pollutants. The substitution of the mineral oil diesel for biodiesel from vegetal or animal origin may constitute an alternative to lower the position of the transport sector in the ranking of "villains" of the greenhouse effects. This work presents scenarios of atmospheric emissions from the use of biodiesel in the mixtures of 2, 5, 20 and 100% (technically known as B2, B5, B20 and B100). The study focus the biodiesel produced from soybeans, considering life cycles from plantation to harvesting, with the consequent expansion of the national agricultural frontiers. |
