| Abstract | Na primeira parte deste estudo, a ocorrência de eventos intensos/extremos de precipitação na Região Sudeste do Brasil é investigada utilizando dados diários de precipitação provenientes de estações meteorológicas de superfície da Agência Nacional de Águas (ANA) referentes ao período de 1960 a 2005, para os meses da estação chuvosa da região (Novembro a Março). Um episódio de chuva é definido como intenso/extremo, quando 15% / 20% ou mais do total climatológico sazonal cai em um dia, respectivamente. As freqüências de precipitações extremas tiveram suas preferências de localizações pela área litorânea da Região Sudeste. A maioria dos anos com freqüências elevadas de eventos intensos e extremos de precipitação coincidiu com a ocorrência do fenômeno El Niño. Durante os meses da estação chuvosa foi notável que, primeiramente, as maiores freqüências de chuva intensa ocorreram sobre os Estados de Minas Gerais e Espírito Santo, ao passo que somente em Janeiro, os Estados do Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo tiveram aumento em suas freqüências de precipitação intensa/extrema. ABSTRACT: In the first part of this study, occurrence of heavy/extreme events of precipitation in the Southeast Region of Brazil is investigated using daily precipitation data gathered by the Agência Nacional de Águas (ANA) during the period from 1960 to 2005, for the months of the rainy season of the region (November to March). A rain episode is defined as heavy/extreme, when 15% / 20% or more of the seasonal climatological total fell in one day, respectively. The events of extreme precipitation had their preference of location near the coastal area of the Southeast Region. Most of the years with high frequency of heavy/extreme precipitation events coincided with the occurrence of the phenomenon El Niño. It is interesting to note that, the largest amounts of rain happened first over the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, and only in January, the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo had received strong rains considered intense/extreme precipitation. |
