| Abstract | Este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar as condições sinóticas que provocaram chuvas intensas e acumulado significativo de chuva na região leste do Estado de Santa Catarina, no período compreendido entre os dias 30/01/2008 e 01/02/2008. A condição favorável à ocorrência de tempo severo nesta parte do país foi prevista, neste período, com antecedência, pelos meteorologistas do Grupo de Previsão de Tempo (GPT) do Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais/Centro de Previsão de Tempo e Estudos Climáticos (INPE/CPTEC) que utilizam diversas ferramentas desenvolvidas por meteorologistas e técnicos do GPT a partir das observações diárias, do conhecimento teórico e prático das variáveis meteorológicas e do comportamento atmosférico que podem influenciar a condição de tempo em determinada Região ou localidade. Estas ferramentas garantem o diagnóstico mais fidedigno do comportamento atmosférico e permite realizar um prognóstico mais conciso e confiável. Isto permite, muitas vezes, ao GPT informar com antecedência a ocorrência de uma possível condição adversa de tempo, auxiliando as instituições parceiras na tomada de decisão que possibilite evitar e/ou minimizar os prejuízos causados à população pelos fenômenos atmosféricos extremos, caso venham a ocorrer. No caso específico do evento abordado neste trabalho, as condições favoráveis a tempo severo sobre o Estado de Santa Catarina foram detectadas, com alguns dias de antecedência, e avisos foram emitidos para as instituições parceiras tais como Defesa Civil, Prefeituras, Imprensa e etc. ABSTRACT: This paper aims to be a study of the synoptic conditions that brought intense rain showers and high volumes of rain to eastern Santa Catarina between January 30th and February 1st, 2008. The conditions that favored the severe weather in this part of the country were forecasted by the weather forecasters of the Weather Forecast Group (GPT) of the Center of Weather Forecast and Studies of Climate of the National Space Research Institute (CPTEC/INPE). Several tools developed from daily observations, practical and theoretical knowledge of the meteorological variables and of the atmospheric behavior which influence the weather conditions over a determined place are used in these situations. These tools are the basis of an accurate diagnosis of the atmospheric behavior and allows us to make a more precise and believable forecast. All of these permit the forecast in advance of an adverse condition of weather, helping other institutions to take decisions to avoid or diminish the losses to the people caused by extreme atmospheric phenomena, if they occur. In the case studied here the conditions that favored the severe weather in the State of Santa Catarina were forecasted within some days in advance and alerts were sent to institutions like the Civil Defense, Media and others. |
