AbstractRESUMEN - Este artículo muestra un metodología para diseñar atomizadores tipo "Y",con el objetivo de obtener un spray fino. Se presenta un ejemplo de cálculo y construcción de un atomizador, siguiendo la metodología propuesta. Se evaluó el diámetro medio de las gotas del spray formado por el atomizador disenado utilizando la ecuación de Wigg.También se determinó el diámetro en forma experimental utilizando un sistema láser PDPA ( Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer). Así, fue posible evaluar la metodología empleada en la construcción del atomizador. Los resultados mostraron que la metodología permite obtener el spray fino deseado,c omo lo requieren los sistemas de combustión que utilizan combustibles líquidos. ABSTRACT - The article shows a methodology for the design of "Y" type atomizers with the aim obtaining a fine spray. An example of atomizer design and construction ,using the proposed methodology,is presented. The mean diameter of the spray droplets was estimated using Wigg´s equation. Also the diameter was experimentally determined using a laser Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer (PDPA).With this measurement it was possible to evaluate the methodology used in the atomizer construction. The results demonstrated that with the methodology it is possible to produce the desired fine spray, as required by combustion systems which use liquid fuels.
