AbstractAbstract- Carbides of tungsten and molybdenum, with controlled porosity, were used,in place of the traditional 30% Ir/Al2O3 catalyst for hydrazine decomposition in a 2 N thruster. The results of their evalultion in static tests under vacuum showed that their performances were very close to the ones of the metallic catalyst in, particular in the aspects of production of thrust, stabilily behaviour and ignition delay in colds starts. These results their final costs, much smaller than those of the traditional catalyst, and the ease of their preparation made them suitable for use in the next future as a substitutive for the expensive iridium products in small salellites of the brazilian space program.
