AbstractAbstract - This work describes the performance of a flame heater using aviation kerosene (JP-1) as fuel in a device featuring the coupling between the sudden expansion effect and vortical flows generated by swirling jet air-blast atomizers. The experimental results show an improvement on the mixing of the fuel with the previously oxygen-enriched air, assuring a complete reaction and the desired temperature and composition conditions in a short length chamber. This burner has been integrated to a direct connected scramjet combustor test facility.
