AbstractMiniaturized satellites require specific design since they present serious constraints, like mass, power supply and volume. Even though simpler than bigger satellites, the electronic parts must be rigorously designed once these devices will be under severe radiation throughout their lifetime, after deployment in the Low Earth Orbit by the launcher vehicle. Nanosatellites space technology implies on development of low costs devices, and the off the shelf products would be a good alternative. Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) have become faster, more versatile and cheaper, but still susceptible to Single Event Upset (SEU) over the space environment. The analysis of different devices is needed in order to use FPGAs in Nanosatellites. This work analyzes various FPGAs, considering available tools and documentation, power consumption, quantity of system gates, radiation tolerance and operating temperature which will be applied on the Brazilian CubeSat Project the NANOSATC-BR. These features are matched with Nanosatellites project restrictions. Preliminary results indicate that few FPGAs can be successful used on Nanosatellites projects.
