AbstractThe presence of the South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly (SAMA) is one of the most outstanding importance in the Ionospheric irregularities studies over Southern Brazil. Nowadays, the geomagnetic field intensity near the SAMA center is about 23000 nT. The cosmic rays energetic particles (electron and protons), can be trapped in the Van Allen Belt and also particles from the solar wind or from the Coronal Mass Ejection (CME),and they can precipitate easily in the atmosphere and ionize its constituents. Ionospheric irregularities analysis were made using GPS data (Global Positioning System) from the satellite receivers over the L1 band (fL1 = 1.5754 GHz) were detected with ground receivers installed at the Southern Space Research Center CRS/INPE - MCT, Santa Maria, RS, Brazil (Lat.: 29.71ºS Long.: 53.71ºW Lat.dip: 19,63º S) which are integrated in the GPSs SCINTMON and CASCADE receivers network's, developed by Cornell University (USA). Due the Ionospheric irregularities, the GPS received signal can presents disturbances and scintillations, which can be caused by plasma bubbles (a kind of Ionospheric irregularity). This specific kind of Ionospheric irregularity will be analyzed during a calm and a disturbed period and the drift velocity will be calculated for the plasma bubbles using spaced GPS receivers.
