AbstractA prototype interferometer similar to the LOw Frequency ARray (LOFAR) Prototype Station (LOPES), was developed and installed in the Southern Space Observatory (SSO, 29.4º S, 53.8º W, 480 m), in São Martinho da Serra, RS, Brazil, to cover the sub-100 MHz LOFAR frequency range. In accordance with previous observational spectrum monitoring results, the SSO site was classified as being suitable for the installation of sensitive and sophisticated radio interferometers, based on the phased array concept, similar to those employed by the European LOFAR stations. These results motivated the development and implementation of a Radio Astronomy low cost elementary interferometer. The new prototype interferometer was first installed at the Southern Regional Space Research Center for integration and tests. Later, March 2011, it was removed to SSO Observatorys site. The analysis of the first observational results, collected using the LOPES prototype interferometer at SSO showed its capacity to detect astronomical radio sources. This work presents results of the first observational data analysis detected by the SSOs LOPES similar radio interferometer.
