Aerosol Optical Thickness (AOT)
AbstractUrban centers have significant influence on local microclimate, changing the patterns of the microphysics clouds, for example. Changes on the lightning activity are one of those consequences. Numerical simulations were made to analyze the influence of aerosol on thunderstorm clouds. Thus, was used the Weather Research and Forecast model (WRF) with Global Forecast System (GFS) initializations date provided by National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) in the 1.0 x 1.0 degree. The simulated days were separated in three groups, which they were selected based on two criteria: 1) number of lightning major than 300 flashes and 2) Particulate Matter (PM) in three different ranges of concentrations, low, intermediate and high. The results suggest an agreement with aerosol Thermodynamic Forcing (TF) theory, representing the aerosol induced change in the atmospheric energy budget that is not radiative in nature. TF does not change the net Earth energy budget, but rather redistributes it internally. How additional result, was plotted the number of CG lightning and air temperature for the three PM 10 concentrations ranges. The results showed the gboomerang effecth for the number of CG lightning. The same behavior was found analyzing Aerosol Optical Thickness (AOT) resulted by aerosol smoke and lightning activity provided by World]Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) at Amazonia region in an independent study. On the other hand, the air temperature presented no significant changes in three PM 10 concentrations ranges.
